This is a hallmark standalone murder mystery that in my opinion should've had a second movie because it ended on a cliffhanger. But I’ll get to that later. The gist of the plot is Mitzi, the woman who owns the pageant finds herself dead by being stabbed in the back with a pair of cutting sheers. Everyone at the pageant is a suspect and some with good reason. Thankfully I never did pageants lmao. Ali is a hairstylist who always gets the town's secrets and gossip, so it’s nothing new when she’s asked to help assist in the case. And in doing so, she meets the new cop in town Kyle Crawford.
You find out pretty early on that Ali is a widow and her husband had been a cop that was shot and killed while on duty. Which explains why the department goes to her for help. In true hallmark fashion, everyone is suspicious until ruled out or questionable until the very end. Not going to lie, I took the bait and was super fishy about a character and was sure I was right until I was proved wrong lol.
The pacing of the movie was good and there were no spots that I felt bored or drawn out. But I do have a question.. There’s a scene where Ali is coming out of the building and gets shot at. Later in the movie they briefly mention that the shooter had been caught and arrested. But who the hell was the shooter? Unless I missed if they said a name. But I feel that was kinda important to the story since it happened to a main character.
And finally, the cliffhanger. The whole time watching the movie I felt as if things were missing or being hinted at, but not delved into. I knew there was more to Kyle than what was being shown. And that Ali was likely onto something about her husband’s death after all. Perhaps they had planned on making this a series but decided to cancel it. So we may never find out the bigger mystery.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, family filled, murder mystery with a twist and turn!
